Wrestling roundup: Willmar takes home a pair of victories

LITTLE FALLS — The Willmar wrestling team came away with two victories Tuesday in the Little Falls triangular, knocking off the host Flyers 36-22 and beating Buffalo 61-12.

“They (the Flyers) have a tough team and they came at us,” Willmar head coach Ed Oehlers said. “They really tried to knock us off. They came at us.”

The Cardinals picked up close decisions from Wyatt Cruze at 106 pounds (5-4), Ivan Mares at 126 (5-4) and Braeden Erickson at 170 (8-4).

Oehlers noted that Mattix Swanson picked up wins in both matches at 160, as did Erickson and 285-pounder Daunte Castellano.

Willmar is host to a triangular at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Willmar Middle School. The Cardinals wrestle Central Lakes Conference opponents Brainerd and Sartell.


“We hope to pack that little gym,” Oehlers said.
