COLD SPRING — The Willmar wrestling team earned a pair of Central Lakes Conference victories Thursday night at Rocori, beating Fergus Falls 67-9 and the host Spartans 43-27.

“(It was a) great night,” Willmar head coach Ed Oehlers said. “Fergus has been down over the years a little bit, but Rocori has been building their program and they have some solid individuals.

“We had some nice wins.”

Sully Anez pinned his opponent in 5 minutes, 18 seconds in the Fergus Falls match and also had a pin in 1:50 over Rocori’s Ryder Kremers.

The victories leave the Cardinals with a 2-0 CLC and 7-8 overall record heading into the Hutchinson Invitational that begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

It’s an individual tournament and viewed as good preparation for the sectional meet.

“We’ve been going to that for years,” Oehlers said. “It’s a good array of teams and the last individual tournament for us of the year.

“It’s always been a tournament where we get a lot of challenging matches and good competition.”
