GRANITE FALLS -- Redwood Valley went on a 12-2 run to start the second half and rallied past Yellow Medicine East 61-47 in a non-conference girls basketball game on Monday.
No team could gain the advantage in the first half, which ended with YME clinging to a 29-27 lead as Macy McKay popped in a long rebound from the lane just before the buzzer.
But the second half was owned by the Cardinals (11-8). Closely guarded, senior 6-foot center Kelsey Guetter, averaging 21.1 ppg, was held to two points in the first half, but got free for 11 points the second half when the Cardinals outscored the Sting, 34-18.
Redwood Valley's Sam Felt, a freshman guard, had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Laura Houghton also produced 15 points and Hannah Bitker nabbed 10 rebounds to go with nine points. Jessica Fischer supplied nine points and five assists.
Aimee Johnson and Emily Krogstad each tallied 12 points for YME (8-6). Krogstad's points came on four 3-pointers. Whitney Swenson grabbed eight rebounds, but the Sting were outboarded 41-18.
