ITASCA -- Ridgewater had seven wrestlers qualify for the NJCAA Division III National Tournament after winning the Region 13 tournament Sunday.

Lonnie Booshu at 125 pounds, Nate Frederich at 133, Javier Portillo at 141, Mariano Portillo at 149, Ryan Krause at 157, Trevor Krueger at 165 and Travis Peralta at 174 all qualified for the national tournament that will be held Feb. 25-26 in Spokane, Wash.

The Warriors had the highest point total among three Minnesota colleges competing against four Iowa schools to claim the district title.

Billy Dean was one win away from also qualifying after being bumped up to the 184-pound division. Nick Dahl, Ridgewater's regular at 184, injured his knee during practice last week and Ridgewater coach Tom Beyer inserted Dean at 184. The freshman, who split his time between the 157- and 165-pound weight classes on the year, weighed in at 174 for the region tournament. Dean then fell one win short from advancing as he was edged 8-6 in the third-place match.

Frederich, Krause, Krueger and Peralta also qualified for the national tournament as freshmen.
