WILLMAR -- Freshmen hitters Brianna Jacobson and Emily Roelike each peppered the MSCTC-Fergus Falls' defense with 10 kills to help Ridgewater defeat the Spartans 25-14, 25-17, 25-23 on Wednesday night at the college gym.

The victory upped the Lady Warriors' record to 3-0 in the MCAC Southern Division and to 6-1 overall.

Jacobson had two misses in 22 hits. The 5-foot-10 middle hitter from New London-Spicer also led the team with four blocks, three of them solo.

Roelike, a 5-6 outside hitter from Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, swatted from the left side for most of her 10 kills. She missed just once in 16 chances.

The reserves took over in Game 3. It wasn't a big drop off. They stayed within a point or two most of the way, then pulled in front at 23-22 on Abby Halter's hammer hit from the left side.

A minute later, she served match point, which came on a Jacobson blast from the middle that hit nothing but wood.

Coach Joe Sussenguth said the backups showed similar tenacity when they played the second game over the weekend in Austin. They lost that game, barely, but had come back from a big deficit to make it close.

Ridgewater hosts an eight-team invite on Saturday starting at 10 a.m.

Stephanie Tillman, the pre-season All-America from Sartell, finished with seven kills. Macy McKay was 16-of-16 serving with two for aces.

Darcie Listul triggered the offense in the first two games with 23 set assists. Cassie Edwards ran the program the third and came up with eight assists.

Libero Brandi Bodin paced play in the back row with eight digs.

Whitney Moore led Fergus with seven kills. Nicky Carrison, who earned Player of the Week honors announced on Wednesday, finished with six kills.

Brandi Bodin, a Ridgewater freshman from MACCRAY, was named Libero of the Week for the Southern Division. She served 94 percent with four aces and averaged 2.86 digs per game in two Warrior wins.
