WACONIA — The River Lakes girls hockey team opened the 2019-20 season with a 6-2 victory over Waconia on Thursday night.
The Stars got two goals and an assist from Aubrey Griffin and single goals from Tyra Johnson, Brooke Lemke, Kiana Roeske and McKynzie Cremers to beat Waconia.
Johnson and Roeske each had two assists and Hannah Zimmer added three assists for River Lakes.
The Stars next play at 7 p.m. at Morris/Benson Area’s Lee Community Center.

Kourtney Meilke scored a pure hat trick, getting three straight goals in the second period, to lift Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato to the victory at the Sauk Centre Civic Arena.
Grace Braaten, Emma DeWolf, Cassy Justison and Lydia Niemela also tallied goals for L/DC.
Sophia Hillmann and Kristin Foley each had three assists and Emily Johnson added two.
Avery Stillwell stopped all six shots in goal for the shutout.
L/DC plays Minnesota River at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Litchfield Civic Arena.
