Saints march

KERKHOVEN - Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg's wrestling team proved its dominance over Paynesville Friday night, taking down the Bulldogs 50-12.

The Saints were ranked sixth in Class A in The Guillotine's Jan. 27 poll and they proved why, winning all but two events in the dual. Paynesville's lone wins came via forfeit and an injury default.

Will Magaard and Kyle Meyer got the event rolling for the Saints, earning pins in the first two matches of the day by fall and major decision, respectively. Paynesville's Julian Chavez took a win by forfeit at 120 pounds before the Saints began to find momentum once again.

Paynesville's Shawn Rue stepped up from his normal 126 pounds where he's ranked seventh in Class A to take on Jonathan Tostenson at 132 pounds. It was a tight match throughout but Tostenson was able to take the victory by 3-0 decision.

KMS' Dylan Rudningen and Caleb Collins followed up with speedy pins back-to-back to help their team take a commanding lead.

The dual hit a snag when KMS' Wyatt Jones went down with a gruesome arm injury early in his match against Connor Meagher requiring an injury default. Jones required emergency services but he raised a pointed finger as he was assisted by stretcher to an ambulance as the crowd voiced its support.

After a lengthy delay, Saints Derek Krieger (the seventh-ranked wrestler at 160 pounds) and Brandin Dahl (sixth-ranked at 170 pounds) each wrestled up a weight class and earned victories against their competition. KMS' Ryan Torkelson and Michael Doubek closed out the event with a decision and a pin, respectively, before an open 285 pound match.

KMS will compete against Benson on Feb. 2.
