Saturday's Result: Ackerman's seven points sparks win for Cards

A seven-point effort from Nate Ackerman helped the Willmar boys hockey team snap a five-game losing streak with a 9-3 win at Prairie Centre Saturday.

A seven-point effort from Nate Ackerman helped the Willmar boys hockey team snap a five-game losing streak with a 9-3 win at Prairie Centre Saturday.

The nine goals tied a season-high for the Cardinals, with the previous mark being reached in the team’s last win on Jan. 15.

Ackerman had a goal in each period and added four assists as Willmar outshot the North Stars 37-14.

Eli Slagter added two goals and two assists, with five other players finding the back of the net once.

The Cardinals return to action Thursday, when they travel to Sauk Rapids-Rice. A Tuesday matchup with Sartell-St. Stephen was called off due to snow.
