Sauk Centre proves it’s power of West Central

GRANITE FALLS -- A balanced attack from Sauk Centre mustered 55 first half points as they blew out Yellow Medicine East 80-38 in the West Central Conference Championship game on Tuesday 80-38.

Only two players reached double figures in scoring for the Mainstreeters, that being Madison Greenwaldt with 10 and Mauren Thiesen 10.
Yellow Medicine East coming into the game had won 13 straight.
Chyanne Sand scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Paige Steffen had eight points as did Makayla Drydahl.
The Sting will look to bounce back as they host Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Friday at 6 p.m. to begin the Section 2AA playoffs, while Sauk Centre will start the post season on a date yet to be confirmed.

Emily Goerdt poured in a game high 21 points and Gabi Sawyer chipped in 18 points as Melrose won their final West Central Conference game of the season over Morris/Chokio-Alberta.
A back and forth game, the Tigers held a five point lead with two minutes left in the game.
However, Melrose would battle back and take the lead with just seconds remaining.
With only 5.8 ticks left, Tracy Meichsner picked off the inbounds pass and threw it to Becca Holland on the baseline who missed the shot.
The Tigers had 25 more shot attempts than the visitors.
Both Lauren Reimers and Correy Hickman had 10 points in the loss. Both teams will begin Section play on a date to be determined.

New London-Spicer clinched at least a share of the Wright County Conference West championship with a victory over the Panthers on Tuesday in New London.
The Wildcats play at Annandale at 7 p.m. Friday to close out the regular season. A Wildcats victory will likely tie them for the title with Dassel-Cokato.
On Tuesday, Kabrie Weber scored 12 points and Brooke Beuning had nine. Megan Thorson scored six points and had 13 rebounds and Ashlyn Geister finished with six points and eight rebounds.

Ashley Just’s basket with 40 seconds left game KMS the lead and the Saints hung on for a non-conference victory on Tuesday in Kerkhoven.
Kalli Forsell scored a team-high 14 points and she also had four assists and three steals. Just scored 12 points, Kalley Anderson had seven points and 13 rebounds, and Sam Gjerde had nine points, six rebounds and four assists.
Kassandra Algarate led the Owls with 20 points and Lexi Steege and Kayla Crowell both had eight.
Hancock wraps up the regular season hosting West Central Area at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
KMS finished the regular season and open Section 3A play against Canby at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Montevideo.
