WILLMARWillmar’s first rush to the Brainerd goal produced a goal and that stood up in the weather-shortened boys soccer victory at Willmar’s Hodapp Field.

The match was called after the 53rd minute because of lightning.

“A win’s a win,” Willmar head coach Jeff Winter said.

Jemil Osmin scored about 15 yards from the goal off a pass from Kadar Muhumed for Willmar’s only goal on Parents’ Night.

Winter said he hoped the game would have gone the full 90 minutes.

“I do because I think we would have scored more,” Winter said. “We had a couple of great chances, a couple just over the bar. I’m just happy one went in.”

Willmar plays at 2 p.m. Saturday at Watertown-Mayer.

“I’ve watched some film on them (the Royals),” Winter said. “They are a decent team. They’ll give us a bit of a challenge. Not to sound overconfident, but the way our passing game is going right now, if we carry that into Saturday, we’ll be very tough.”
