WILLMAR — The Willmar boys soccer team played to a 1-1 overtime tie with Monticello on Saturday at Hodapp Field.

It’s only the second time this season the Cardinals have tied. They are 13-0-2 and ranked ninth in the state in Class AA.

The Cardinals opened the scoring against the Magic. Anthony Reyes Jimenez scored in the 68th minute on a penalty kick.

Monticello tied it up on a penalty kick in the 77th minute by Ty Modaff.

Andrew Ziebarth made five saves in goal for the Cardinals.

Willmar next plays at 5 p.m. Thursday at Hodapp Field against Rocori in a Central Lakes Conference match. The Cardinals are 11-0 in the CLC, having already clinched the title. Rocori is 5-8..

Community Christian School beat Chain of Lakes in a Christian Athletic League game at Willmar.

Seven players scored goals for the Eagles, including Mark Arnold (with two assists), Gibson Horyza, Landon Holmgren, Johnny Reid, Jack Velyan, Renea Levesque and Kody Tollfesrud. Conner Levesque added two assists for CCS.

Girls Soccer

W-M 2, Willmar 1 (OT)

Senior midfielder Maris Heun scored her second goal of the game at the 82nd minute to lift Watertown-Mayer past Willmar at Hodapp Field.

“They were a good team and we battled hard the whole game,” Willmar head coach Amanda Broman said. “Our keeper, Ella Swenson, had a great night, too.”

Willmar took a 1-0 lead on Ellary Lange’s successful penalty kick at the 73rd minute. Heun then scored on a penalty kick at the 78th minute.

Early in overtime, Heun scored off a corner kick by Megan Barnhart.

Willmar plays Hutchinson/Glencoe-Silver Lake at 4:15 p.m. Monday in Glencoe.
