SPRINGFIELD -- A five-run fourth inning allowed Redwood Valley to overtake Springfield as the Cardinals won their fifth straight game by edging the Tigers 6-4 in a non-conference softball game Tuesday.
After Redwood Valley scored in the top of the third inning, Springfield (1-11) plated four runs in its half of the third to take a 4-1 lead, but the Cardinals soared back to extend the Tigers' losing streak to 11. Springfield outhit Redwood Valley 9-4.
Jessica Fischer pulled Redwood Valley (12-3) within one run of the lead by hitting a two-run single. Springfield then committed two errors that allowed Steph Jensen, Julia Busiahn and Megan Bunting to score and give the Cardinals a two-run lead.
Sam Felt made the advantage hold up as the sophomore went the distance to pick up the win, shaking off nine hits, three earned runs and three walks while striking out five.
