NEW LONDON — The New London-Spicer softball team ran into one of the best pitchers in the Wright County Conference on Tuesday afternoon.

Makayla Graunke tossed a one-hitter for the Rockets in a 13-0 victory over the Wildcats.

“We struck out too many times, that’s for sure,” NLS head coach Melissa Bergeson said. “But we haven’t seen that speed of pitching in a while. We were making contact in the later innings. We were starting to hit it a little bit.”

The hard-throwing right-hander struck out 12 and walked two. Brianna Demming had NLS’ lone hit and also walked.

“Brianna had a great game,” Bergeson said. “We played fairly well in the field.

“Other than that one inning where we made two errors, I thought we played defense pretty well.”

Emma Sather, Ellie Sather and Graunke all had two hits for Rockford.
