St. Cloud shuts out Willmar

ST. CLOUD--The Willmar boys hockey team had a tough night against St. Cloud, allowing four second-period goals and losing 8-0 on Thursday at the National Hockey Center on the St. Cloud State University campus.

Ethan Hopper, Noah Bissett and Nick Portz all scored twice for St. Cloud.

The Cardinals play in a boys-girls doubleheader against Alexandria on Monday at the Willmar Civic Center. The boys play at 5:15 p.m.

Gymnastics

SPICER-Courtney Henjum placed first All-Around but New London-Spicer fell to Watertown-Mayer/Mound Westonka on Thursday.

Henjum scored 36.55 and Emily Novak was third with 34.5.

Henjum also won the bars and floor exercise and was second in the vault and beam.

Novak was third on the vault and Rachel Vraa tied for third on the beam.

NLS plays host to Willmar at 5 p.m. Saturday at the New London-Spicer Middle School.

Brainerd won all but the final two events to defeat Willmar Thursday night.

Ryan Kuchta was the Cardinals' lone single winner. He grabbed a first place finish at 1:10.28 in the 100-yard backstroke. Jacob Meyer finished right behind him at 1:13.11.

Willmar also won the final event of the night, taking the top two positions at the 400-yard freestyle relay.
