MINNEAPOLIS — Led by two all-state relays teams, the Willmar boys swimming and diving team took ninth place in the Class A state championship meet Saturday at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center on the University of Minnesota campus.

“Great day for the Cardinal boys,” said Willmar head coach Carl Shuldes. “Every event dropped time and moved up from their seeds. We were seeded at 70 points going in and ended up scoring 99 points.”

Breck/Blake won its fifth straight Class A championship with 418.5 points, beating Alexandria’s 250. Sartell (237), Hutchinson (136.5) and Delano/Watertown-Mayer (119) rounded out the top five.

Willmar’s top finish was the 400-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Colin O’Farrell, Ethan Hurley, Ben Seelhammer and Ayden Schueler placed sixth at 3 minutes, 16.82 seconds. The relay team from Sartell won the 400 free relay at 3:07.84.
