MINNEAPOLIS - Willmar's 400 Freestyle Relay team earned a spot in the finals during Friday's preliminaries at the Minnesota State Swimming and Diving Meet at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center on the University of Minnesota campus.

The 400 free relay team of Jacob Meyer, Ayden Schueler, Mateo Marin-Mera and Garrett Shuldes dropped 3.36 seconds off its personal best and finished eighth in 3:18.42.

The top eight prelim finishers qualify for finals while places nine through 16 compete in consolation finals.

Shuldes advanced to the consolation finals in the 500 free with a tie for 10th in 21.82, and in the 100 free with an 11th-place finish in 48.19.

The Cardinals' 200 free relay team of Meyer, Ethan Kubesh, Marin-Mera and Shuldes also will compete in consolations with a 12th-place finish in 1:29.73.

In the 200 individual medley, Marin-Mera placed 17th in 2:04.63, and Schueler placed 18th in the 500 free in 5:09.00.

Cardinals swimmers dropped PB times in all six events they competed in Friday. The Class A meet resumes today at 11 a.m.
