MINNEAPOLIS — Willmar sophomore Ava Brogren took 14th place during the consolation finals of the 100-yard breaststroke at the Class A state swimming and diving championships Saturday from the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.

Brogren turned in a time of 1 minute, 9.91 seconds during the event while Alexandria junior Ashtyn Molesworth put up a mark of 1:08.05 to win the consolation championship. After entering state as the top seed and producing the fastest preliminary mark, Richfield senior Hannah Hintermeist comfortably won on the state title with a time of 1:04.41, nearly a second and a half ahead of her next closest competitor.

Behind Brogren’s performance, Willmar collected three team points, finishing tied with Chisago Lakes Area for 43rd place overall. Visitation captured its seventh straight Class A title with 318 total points.
