WILLMAR — While Willmar won eight events, Melrose was able to leave Willmar High School with the non-conference victory.

“Exciting meet,” said Cardinals head coach Carl Shuldes. “We just couldn’t find those extra couple of points that we needed.”

Cardinals sophomore Shelby Reed was a two-time winner on Tuesday, taking first in the 50-yard freestyle (26.04 seconds) and 100 freestyle (58.18).

Kylie Portiin won the diving competition with a score of 164.15. Also winning for Willmar were: Cate Brogren (200 freestyle, 2:13.07); Aubrey Schueler (100 butterfly, 1:08.63); and Ava Brogren (100 backstroke, 1:04.58).
