WILLMAR - The first tip-off of Willmar's 2018-2019 basketball season didn't go exactly according to plan. Cardinal forward Drey Dirksen leapt for the ball, as did St. Cloud Tech's Odier Olange, and the ball bounced off both players' outstretched hands and trickled out of bounds. Referees called for a re-do and Olange edged out Dirksen and the Tigers came away with the ball.

Just like the opening tip-off, St. Cloud Tech edged Willmar and the Cardinals are probably wishing for a re-do.

St. Cloud Tech notched win No. 2 on the year with a 60-59 victory over the Cardinals, who start the year 0-1.

Both teams came out of the gates with more energy than efficiency and the Tigers carried a 21-20 lead going into the locker room at halftime. The second half proved to be more of a barnburner as each team scored 39 points but St. Cloud Tech's Kedrik Osourah hit what proved to be the game-winning shot with a 3-pointer with 53 second left. Osourah finished the game with 14 points and three made 3-pointers, while teammate Jared Yeager led the way with 18 points.

Ryan Slette led Willmar with 14 points and Drey Dirksen added 12 points. Ty Roelofs logged a double-double thanks to 11 points and 12 rebounds and Jake Evans added 11 points, in part due to going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Dirksen also finished with nine rebounds.
