LITCHFIELD—The Litchfield Dragons have their eyes set on another trip to the state tennis tournament and looked every bit the part of a team ready to return on Wednesday in the team's season-opening Litchfield Invitational with Willmar, BBE and Minnewaska.

The Dragons rolled to three straight victories, dispatching with the Cardinals and BBE 7-0 and earning a 6-1 win against the Lakers.

Shanna Kinny returned as the team's top singles player in the two matches against Willmar and Minnewaska, winning both in straight-sets. She also earned a No. 1 doubles win with teammate Elise Bierbaum against BBE. Bierbaum had quite the day herself, winning her other two matches at No. 2 singles in straight sets.

Avery Stilwell joined the party, winning two matches at No. 3 singles before taking over top singles duties for Kinny and earning the win.

Minnewaska ran into trouble with Litchfield but had an otherwise strong day, topping Willmar 6-1. Scores from BBE's match against Minnewaska were not provided.

The Lakers' top doubles pair of Alissa Thorfinnson and Greta Reichmann earned the team's only win against Litchfield on the way to a perfect day.

Willmar also earned a win against BBE despite dropping matches to Minnewaska and Litchfield. Ashley Prahl led the charge with a pair of wins for the Cardinals and Lydia Morrell provided fight from the top of the singles lineup. She pushed Kinny in the second set of Wednesday's match but ultimately fell to the Litchfield senior who took third place in the state meet last year with doubles partner Avery Stilwell.

Fans missed out on the chance of seeing a repeat of last year's state tournament quarterfinal match between Bierbaum and Danielle Thorfinnson. Thorfinnson topped Bierbaum last year at Reed-Sweatt Tennis Center by a 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 scoreline but Kinny won bragging rights Wednesday morning with a 6-2, 6-2 win.
