Boys Tennis: Cards blank Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON—The Willmar tennis team had two competitive matches but rolled in the other five and defeated Hutchinson 7-0 on Saturday at the indoor courts at the MeLeod County Fairgrounds.

Will Fischer needed a third set to defeat Hutchinson's Blake Schmidt at No. 1 singles. The Cardinals' No. 3 doubles team of Cole Helfinstine and Ethan Rekedal dropped their first set but won the second in a tiebreaker and won 10-5 in a third pro set.

Willmar's Peyton Fischer (No.2 singles), Hunter Fischer (No. 3) and Ryan Ackerman (No.4) won in straight sets, as did the Cardinals' No. 1 doubles team of Joshua Johannes and Rafael Zelaya and the No. 2 doubles team of Caleb Laurence and Andrew Haugen.

Litchfield 5, Mora 2

Litchfield stole a match from Mora Friday afternoon with a 5-2 win at Mora.

Alex Draeger set the tone of the hard-nosed match with a three-set winner over Nick Madison at No. 1 singles, with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-0 victory. Braeden Olson also won a three-set match for the Dragons, defeating Joe Zins 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.

Mora pulled back two wins at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles but couldn't do enough to turn their fortune.
