ALEXANDRIA — With Section 8AA play looming, Willmar was able to exact some revenge on Alexandria to close the regular season.

After losing earlier this season, 4-3, Willmar swept singles play en route to locking up a 5-2 Central Lakes Conference girls tennis win over Alexandria on Tuesday.

Willmar had two three-set wins in singles. At No. 2, Ashley Prahl bounced back from a first-set loss to beat Kaylee Svee 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-2. Alyssa Morrell found herself in the same circumstance while winning at No. 3 against Sarah Jiang, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Mercedes Schueler and Abby Stauffenecker got Willmar’s lone doubles win, taking the No. 3 match, 6-4, 7-6 (4).

The fourth seed in Section 8AA-South, Willmar opens the playoffs at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Sta-Fit in Sartell against fifth-seeded Rocori. If Willmar wins, they’ll play again at 5:30 p.m.

Veronica Jackson got the lone win for Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in a 6-1 loss to Melrose on Tuesday.

At No. 3 singles, Jackson won a third-set super-tiebreaker to beat Emily Rieland 6-3, 6-7, 10-6.
