FARGO, N.D. — Minnewaska’s Danielle and Alissa Thorfinnson earned a berth in the state individual tournament by winning the Section 6A doubles championship Tuesday at Courts Plus Community Fitness.
The Thorfinnsons beat the Osakis duo of Mara Vannyhuis and Camryn Hoffarth, 7-6, 6-0 to advance.
In singles, Montevideo’s Kori Douglas also earned a state berth by finishing second in singles to Osakis’ Tia Dykema.
Dykema beat Douglas in the final, 6-4, 6-3.
The state individual tournament is Oct. 25-26 at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
Minnewaska’s team has also qualified at state and plays Tuesday, Oct. 22 in the state quarterfinals against Litchfield at 2 p.m. at Reed-Sweatt.
Other first-round team matches have New London-Spicer facing Pequot Lakes at 8 a.m.; Rochester Lourdes going against Blue Earth Area at 10 a.m. and Blake playing Thief River Falls at noon.
The semifinals are at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, with the championship to floow at 4 p.m.
