ALEXANDRIA — The Willmar girls tennis team played the No. 2 team in the Central Lakes Conference to a near draw Tuesday night, with Alexandria prevailing 4-3.

Willmar’s Kessa Mara won at No. 3 singles over Sara Jiang 7-5, 7-6 (3). Allie Bruhn had a hard-fought victory at No. 4 singles for Willmar, winning 6-7 (3), 7-6 (3), 10-8 over Jaya Hatlestad.

And, Willmar’s No. 3 doubles team of Rebecca Laurence and Kylee Berget won 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 over Maci Tillesjor and Grace Reid.

Alexandria is now 6-1 in the CLC and 6-1 overall.

Willmar (1-2 CLC, 2-4 overall) is host to conference-leading Brainerd, which was 5-0 in the CLC going into Tuesday, at 4 p.m. Thursday.

The match was tied 3-3 when Annandale sophomore Faith Simon beat Izzy Schmiesing 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles to capture the Wright County Conference match at Annandale.

At No. 3 doubles, New London-Spicer’s Jordan Proehl and Brooke Adelman rallied from a 5-2 first-set deficit to win 7-5, 6-4.

The Wildcats’ Ellie Hanson and Sadie Hatlestad also won at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, 6-0. It was the first time the two were paired.
