SARTELL — Reaching the final eight of the Section 8AA singles tournament, Willmar senior Allie Bruhn bowed out in the section quarterfinals Saturday at Sta Fit.

The No. 4 seed out of the South sub-section, Bruhn lost to the North’s No. 1 seed, Bemidji senior Savannah Haugen. Haugen won the match 6-1, 6-1.

Haugen went on to win the section singles championship with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Moorhead’s Katrina Hansen. Then for true second, and the section’s other state berth, Annandale’s Faith Simon bested Hansen 6-1, 6-2.

In 8AA doubles, Thief River Falls’ Brooklyn Broadwell and Addison Burns were section champs after defeating St. Cloud’s Paige Tarrolly and Ella Marohl 6-1, 6-1. Tarrolly and Marohl won a true second match over Becker’s Ayla Brown and Dani Nuest 6-0, 6-3.

The Class AA state tournament goes from Oct. 26-29 from the Baseline Tennis Center on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis.
