Five 2015 high school graduates from the area will be participating in Wednesday’s Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association All-Star Match at St. Cloud State University.
Central Minnesota Christian School stars Nicole Brouwer, Erin Orred and Lexi Scott were named to the Red Team, while Sydney Stone of New London-Spicer and Kinlee Swanson of Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa are on the Blue Team.
Minneota’s Taylor Reiss highlights the White Team.
There will be three, best two-out-of-three-sets matches with play starting at 6 p.m.
All five area players will continue their playing career in college as Brouwer will be attending Northwestern College in St. Paul, Orred at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla., Scott at University of Sioux Falls, Stone at St. Cloud State University and Swanson at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, N.D.

Hotdish Hunger Run set for Aug. 8
The Hotdish Hunger Run will be Saturday, Aug. 8 at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church north of Willmar.
The 5K run starts at 8 a.m. and race-day registration/check-in is an hour prior. The entry fee is $25. There is also a mile fun run that doesn’t have an entry fee.

Willmar Red 16-U softball team third at tournament
The Willmar Girls Red 16-U softball team placed third at the Fairmont Tournament earlier this month.

The team defeated Triton 9-1 to open the tournament before losing to Martin County 5-4.
Willmar defeated Austin 2-0 in the third-place game.
Red 16-U players are Carly Hulstein, Amanda Zuidema, Staci Banks, Anna Backes, Jordyn Swoboda, Larady Lange, Grace Culshaw, Emma Culshaw, Maddie Thorpe, Sam U’Ren, Aby Kienholz, and Heidi Sellman, and scorekeeper Brianna Bredeson.
