Former Willmar tennis coach Hal Miller received a National Federation of State High School Associations Award at the Minnesota State High School League Board of Directors' June 2015 meeting.

Former Willmar tennis coach Hal Miller received a National Federation of State High School Associations Award at the Minnesota State High School League Board of Directors’ June 2015 meeting.
The National Federation recognized Miller with the Distinguished Service Award. Miller is a charter member and past President of the Alexandria Area Tennis Association. Miller is shown above at left with Minnesota State High School League Associate Director Craig Perry.
Miller, of Alexandria, was a teacher and coach in Willmar Public Schools for 34 years.
Among many awards, Miller was named the MSHSL’s 2003 Class AA Coach of the Year, and in 2011 he was inducted into the Willmar Cardinal Pride Hall of Fame.
For 19 years, Miller has been a manager for the MSHSL Class AA girls and Class A boys state tournaments.
Willmar Hockey’s Smith Open is Aug. 7
The Willmar Hockey Smith Open Golf Tournament is Friday, Aug. 7, at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Willmar.
Registration for the four-person scramble is noon to 1 p.m. with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
Dinner and a silent auction begin at 6 p.m.
Golf and dinner is $85 and dinner-only is $20. Gold sponsorships at $600, Silver sponsorships are $400 and Bronze sponsorships are $150.

Wolves announce Summer League roster
The Minnesota Timberwolves announced the team’s NBA Summer League 2015 roster Monday. Minnesota will open its three-game preliminary round schedule on July 10 against the L.A. Lakers at the Thomas & Mack Center.
This year’s Summer League squad consists of 2015 draft picks Karl-Anthony Towns (first overall) and Tyus Jones (24th overall), as well as last year’s Slam Dunk champion Zach LaVine.
Lorenzo Brown and Adreian Payne will also play with the team in Las Vegas. Assistant coach Ryan Saunders will handle head coaching responsibilities for the team’s summer league entry.
The rest of the roster will include Ivan Aska, Kyle Barone, Brady Heslip, Othyus Jeffers, Jordan Morgan, Tyler Stone, Sam Thompson and C.J. Williams.
In addition, Gorgui Dieng, Shabazz Muhammad and Andrew Wiggins will practice with the team in Minnesota during the team’s Summer League mini-camp, but will not play in Las Vegas.
