Ridgewater College sophomore Brenna Holwerda, a utility infielder from Danube, has been named Player of the Week in MCAC South Division softball. Her 3 homers and 12 RBI sparked an 8-0 week for the Warriors.

New 5k run May 16

The first New London Cat Scratch Fever 5k run/walk is scheduled for May 16, a Thursday, with a 6:30 p.m. start at NLS Middle School.

Area athletes honored

by UMAC

Three area prep standouts earned Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors for their performances last week.

University of Minnesota, Morris tennis player Abby Fragodt, a sophomore from Benson, was successful in both of her singles and doubles matches last week. Fragodt allowed just one game against her in the No. 1 singles matches against Bethany Lutheran and Martin Luther.

Dakota Frazier, a UMM sophomore tennis player from Montevideo, won both of his singles and doubles matches against Bethany Lutheran on Saturday.

Bethany Lutheran’s Dylan Gass, a junior from Bird Island, was 9-for-15 in a pair of doubleheader sweeps over Crown and North Central last weekend. Four of Gass’ nine hits went for extra bases, including a home run. Gass drove in eight runs while scoring eight runs.
