The Insider: Jamie Hagen new boys hockey coach at Willmar

Willmar Activities Director Ryan Blahosky announced late Friday afternoon that Jamie Hagen, a 1990 Willmar graduate, has been hired as the head coach of the boys hockey program.

Willmar Activities Director Ryan Blahosky announced late Friday afternoon that Jamie Hagen, a 1990 Willmar graduate, has been hired as the head coach of the boys hockey program.

Hagen has been head coach of the A Bantam program in his hometown. Hagen succeeds another Willmar grad Dan Tollefson, head coach since 2007-08, who resigned.

Ridgewater at Rochester Saturday for football

The Ridgewater College Warriors (0-0, 2-0) go up against Rochester Technical and Community College (0-0, 2-1) at 5 p.m. Saturday in Rochester.

The Warriors, then under head coach John Vraa, last defeated the Yellowjackets in 2005 and have only two wins over Rochester in the past 25 years.

The Warriors must slow down strong-armed Nick Rooney (52-84-860, 5 interceptions, 11 touchdowns). His top target is Patrick Bolton (17-392, 6 TDs). For Ridgewater, Dominick Wise is averaging 10 yards per carry (16-161) and DaWhawn Bell 5.8 (21-121).

Ridgewater College’s Adihia Bell, sophomore safety from Milwaukee, had 7 tackles for the Warriors with five resulting in lost yardage as Ridgewater beat Vermilion 44-6 last week. The MCAC Defensive Player of the Week also intercepted a pass and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown.

RCW Booster Club fundraiser Tuesday

The Renville County West Booster Club is sponsoring a burger feed fundraiser at the Jaguars’ volleyball match with Canby on Tuesday.

The dinner is $6 and is from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. All proceeds benefit the Renville County West Booster Club.

ATV training registration now open at WCER

Willmar Community Education and Recreation has opened registration for ATV training on Saturday, Sept. 27.

The training is 9 a.m. to noon at Motor Sports of Willmar. The fee is $10.

Participants need to bring their own ATV, helmet, a Certificate of Completion from the training CD and a release form signed by a parent or guardian.

SCSU Hockey Caravan in Willmar on Sept. 23

The St. Cloud State Hockey Caravan will visit the Willmar Civic Center on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

Players and coaches from the Huskies’ men’s and women’s teams will be available to talk about the SCSU program, sign autographs and for photographs.

The event is free and open to the public from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
