WILLMAR -- Lauren Trumm scored 32 points and sparked a late run in the first half for Alexandria as the visiting Cardinals outlasted Willmar 57-42 in a Central Lakes Conference girls basketball game Tuesday.

The first 12 minutes of action saw eight lead changes and four ties before unbeaten Alexandria took control by going 12-for-14 from the free-throw line in the final 6:55 of the opening half. Trumm ignited the run by going 7-for-8 from the line en route to netting 15 points in the first half.

Shantel Kelly made two free throws to open the second half for Willmar to get the hometown Cardinals within three of Alexandria's 26-21 halftime lead, but Alexandria (5-0, 7-0) then rattled off a 10-0 run to run away with the win.

"They wore us down with their pressure, running a 1-3-1 halfcourt trap," said Willmar coach Brad Atchison. "We did good in the first half by keeping the turnovers down and getting good shots, but in the second half they wore us down with their length and quickness."

Willmar (2-2, 3-4) didn't get its first field goal of the second half until 7:35 had passed by when Kelly knocked down a three-pointer.
