MINNEAPOLIS --
The Minnesota Twins first baseman hasn't played since July 7 because of post-concussion symptoms stemming from an inadvertent knee to the head during a slide into second base.
A four-time All-Star and 2006 American League MVP, he has begun to improve and hasn't had any recent setbacks, but general manager Bill Smith said today the team doesn't want to rush Morneau back.
Already ruled out for the first round of the playoffs, Morneau had hoped to be ready for the AL championship series or the World Series if the Twins advanced. But Smith says there's not enough time for him to return to full strength.

The Twins expect Morneau to join the team for the start of spring training in 2011.

Twin Cities newspapers are reporting that Minnesota Twin Justin Morneau will not play again this season.
The Twins announced Monday that Morneau will not play during this postseason, according to the Star Tribune of Minneapolis and the St. Paul Pioneer.
Morneau has been out due to a game-action concussion since July 7. He had resumed batting practice and taking ground balls last week, hoping to return to action for American League Championship game if the Twins win their divisional series.
