SARTELL - Willmar senior Rose Jackson qualified in three events and Cardinals junior Chris Cunningham won the boys 200 meter dash to advance to the Class AA Track and Field Championships next Friday and Saturday at Hamline University in St. Paul.
On Friday, the second day of the two-day Section 8AA Track and Field meet - preliminaries were Wednesday in Detroit Lakes - Jackson won the 200 dash (26.8) and finished second in the 100 dash (12.5).
She placed seventh at state in both those events last year. She also finished second in the long jump (17-3). Wensia Johnson, a freshman from Alexandria, won both the 100 and the long jump but she DQed in the 200, an event she won as an eighth-grader at the state meet in 2012.
Cunningham sped to a time of 22.41 to win the 200; Sam Johnson of Monticello was second in 22.84. Cunningham was third in the long jump (only the top two individuals advance and the winning relay).
The Cardinals 4x400-meter girls relay also qualified in a season-best (second best all-time Willmar girls) time of 4:00.08. Relay members are Miranda Roelofs, Samantha Hanson, Rose Jackson and Sophie Schmitz. Three stop watches timed Jackson’s split at 55.93, 56.03 and 56.1. The foursome was second to Bemidji 3:58.89.

Connor Haugen finished third in the 800 run in 2:01.56 for Willmar. Jordan Linde was third in high jump (6-1).
