WILLMAR - After losing twice to New Ulm in a doubleheader last Thursday, Willmar got some revenge on Monday as Jon Broman’s one-out single in the ninth inning gave Post 1639 a 6-5 win at Bill Taunton Stadium.
Willmar started strong by producing four runs in the first inning - highlighted by RBI singles from Tyler Johnson and Zak Madsen - and scoring again in the third, but it was shut out over the next five innings.
An error allowed New Ulm to tie the game at 5-5 in the sixth. Willmar threatened in the seventh after Dalton Rambow singled and Grant Bangen doubled to lead off the frame, but Rambow was thrown out at home trying to score on Bangen’s double.
Rambow singled again to lead off the ninth and an error allowed him to take second. Bangen sacrificed Rambow to third and Broman followed with a single to knock in Rambow and end the game.
Willmar cranked out 13 hits with Rambow going 4-for-5 and Madsen 3-for-4. Broman and Braden Sunder added two hits apiece.

Brandon Elseth worked the final five innings on the mound to earn the win in relief of starter Kaden Kessler-Gross. Elseth shook off issuing four walks by allowing no earned runs and just two hits.
