VFW baseball: Willmar drops three games at Cold Spring tournament

Post 1639 falls to the host, 2-1, then is beaten by Albany 7-4 and Litchfield 4-3.

COLD SPRING — The Willmar VFW Post 1639 baseball went 0-3 over the weekend at the Cold Spring Tournament.

Willmar opened with a 2-1 loss to host Cold Spring on Friday. Post 1639 then fell 7-4 to Albany.

On Saturday, Willmar lost to Litchfield, 4-3.

Litchfield scored the winning run with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning for the walk-off victory. Braeden Fagerlie went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI for Willmar. Cullen Gregory was 2-for-4 with two runs.

Against Cold Spring, Willmar managed three hits. Gregory was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Ethan Reimersma was 1-for-2 with a stolen base and Mason Thole went 1-for-3. Dylan Staska went the distance on the mound, striking out 10 and walking four. He allowed six hits and one earned run.


Against Albany, Staska went 2-for-3 with a double and a run. Gregory also was 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI.

Willmar next plays at 2 p.m. Friday against Howard Lake in the first round of the Monticello Tournament.
