WILLMAR - Grant Bangen tossed a one-hitter with six strikeouts and was one of six Willmar players to get two hits at the plate as Post 1639 overwhelmed Montevideo 12-0 in five innings on Tuesday at Swansson Field.
Bangen retired the final 12 batters he faced after giving up a single to Jack Tweeter in the first and issuing a walk to Cole Sachs leading off the second. The left-hander notched two strikeouts in both the second and third innings and posted a three-pitch strikeout to end the game.
Willmar scored six times in the second, once in the third and five more times in the fourth after getting shut out in the first. Post 1639 launched 15 hits off two Montevideo pitchers with Bangen, Noah Streed, Braden Sunder, Tyler Johnson, Dalton Rambow and Jon Broman all getting two apiece.
Sunder’s two-run double, Zak Madsen’s RBI double and Johnson’s RBI single highlighted the second. Kaden Kessler-Gross, Sunder and Rambow all singled in runs in the fourth.
Willmar is at Fergus Falls today.
