BENSON -- After splitting the first four matches, Benson outlasted Yellow Medicine East in the fifth game to post a 18-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-11 win to hand YME its first loss in the West Central South Conference Tuesday.
Benson (5-1, 10-4) took a commanding 8-2 lead in the fifth game before YME (6-1, 10-2-1) took a timeout. The Sting then got within three at 9-6, but Benson wouldn't relinquish the lead.
Kayla Hampton sparked the Braves' attack with 15 kills, while Taylor Semler chalked up 40 assists. Semler and Jenny Bouta each had eight kills.
Aimee Johnson pounded down a match-high 15 kills for YME with Stina Leiseth following with 14, Macy McKay 13 and Jamie Baker 10. Courtney Knudson had 36 set assists.
