CLARA CITY -- MACCRAY started the Section 3A-North volleyball playoffs with a bang from the service line, recording 16 aces in a 25-9, 25-16, 25-12 win over Ortonville Monday.

The Wolverines (13-7) will face Tracy-Milroy-Balaton in the subsection quarterfinals at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall.

Serving aces didn't come easy for MACCRAY last week in a 3-0 non-conference loss to Marshall, but Monday five players -- Hailey Goeman, Paige Schwitters, Kylie Siverhus, Alicia Koenen and Jenna Tebben -- served three each.

Abbey Thissen clobbered nine kills, followed by Koenen with seven, to pace the Wolverines. Schwitters had four ace blocks and Carly Haas had 16 set assists. Siverhus added 13.
