Volleyball Roundup: Willmar wins big at Moorhead

Cardinals crush Spuds 3-0 to improve to 5-0

MOORHEAD — The Willmar volleyball team continued its strong start to the 2020 season with a 3-0 victory over Moorhead on Saturday.

The Cardinals beat the Spuds 25-20, 25-18, 25-17.

Sydney Schnichels led Willmar with 11 kills and four blocks. Bailey Olson added eight. Lydia Larson had 27 set assists. Abby Stark had 21 digs and two service aces.

Willmar leads the Central Lakes Conference with a 3-0 record. The Cardinals are 5-0 overall. They are host to Alexandria at 7 p.m.Tuesday in a CLC match.

Lac qui Parle Valley earned its first win of the season with the five-set win over visiting Yellow Medicine East.

Tori Bungarden had 27 kills to lead the Eagles’ attack. Ayanna Gibson had 38 set assists and Macie Lund had 25 set assists for LQPV.

For YME, Allie Steffen had 23 kills and 23 digs. Shelby Mortensen had 10 kills and nine blocks. Yansi Flores and Ruby Bones each had 11 blocks. Aria Peters had 44 set assists and Kiara Sakry added 24 digs.
