GRANITE FALLS — The Yellow Medicine East volleyball team could not keep pace with the top-ranked program in Class A.

Minneota made quick work of the Sting to earn a 3-0 road victory on Thursday during a Camden Conference South Division match from the Espeland Gymnasium.

After set scores of 25-16, 25-11 and 25-10, YME’s record dropped to 3-4.

Early in the second set, Yansi Flores blocked multiple Minneota attacks before giving the hosts a 2-1 advantage with a kill. The Vikings ripped off the next six points when Ruby Bones had her best stretch of the match.

Producing YME’s next three points on kills, Bones closed the gap to 9-5. From there, the visitors pulled away for good. Ireland Stassen and Abby Frie delivered powerful swings as the Sting’s back row struggled all night to get in front of attacks and keep balls inbounds.

The road team went up 14-5 with an ace from Abby Hennen and opened up as much of a 21-9 cushion before Sting head coach Alyssa Johnson called her second timeout of the set.

Bones led the home team with eight kills and four ace blocks. Flores had a team-high six ace blocks and nine digs. Aria Peters had 19 assists and 10 digs.

YME is scheduled to play at 7:15 p.m. Monday at Russell-Tyler-Ruthton.
