PAYNESVILLE — The Paynesville volleyball team clinched a five-set victory over New London-Spicer on Tuesday in a back-and-forth battle.

Inside a packed gymnasium, the Wildcats took the first set 25-22 before Paynesville rebounded to take the second 25-16.

The Wildcats regained the lead by taking the third set 25-20. The Bulldogs would force a fifth set after escaping the fourth set with a 26-24 victory.

Paynesville would close out the night by taking the fifth and final set 15-13.

Paynesville is now 12-1 and next plays host to Maple Lake at 7:15 p.m. Thursday in Paynesville.

Elli Roemeling had a team-high 10 kills for the Falcons along with nine digs and two ace serves. Mady Sandstrom scooped up 13 digs in the victory.

Sauk Centre overcame a two-match deficit to defeat Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa at Sauk Centre.

The Mainstreeters prevailed 17-25, 24-26, 25-19, 25-17 and 15-8.

Jenna Gapinski-Vogt, a 6-foot-1 junior, had nine ace blocks for Sauk Centre, which got 26 digs from Cierra Kortan and 10 kills apiece from Tory Jennissen and Heidi Lieser.

Ava Mueller was the Jaguars’ top attacker with 24 kills to go with 11 digs. Libero Emily Kern kept the ball alive with 36 digs, and Kailey Fischer had 49 set assists. \
