DAWSON — The Dawson-Boyd volleyball team advanced in the Section 3A-North tournament with a dramatic victory over Lac qui Parle Valley on Monday.

The Blackjacks beat the Eagles, 3-2. The scores were: 25-14, 23-25, 25-22, 17-25, 15-10.

The victory enables Dawson-Boyd, the North’s eighth seed, to play at 7 p.m. Friday at top-seeded Minneota.

Kate Dahl led the Blackjacks’ attack with 20 kills. Ayianna Hastad had 13 kills and Reese Johnson added 10. Chelsie Husby had 42 set assists and three blocks. Dahl led Dawson-Boyd with three ace serves and 17 digs.

In another 3A-North match, the seventh-seeded Wabasso Rabbits beat 10th-seeded Lakeview 20-25, 25-12, 25-13, 25-9. Wabasso plays at 7 p.m. Friday at No. 2-seeded Canby.

In 3A-South, No. 9 Murray County Central defeated No. 8 Westbrook-Walnut Grove 25-17, 25-17, 18-25, 25-27, 15-11. Murray County Central plays at 7 p.m. Friday at No. 1 Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda.

Also in 3A-South, No. 7 Southwest Minnesota Christian beat No. 10 Hills-Beaver Creek 25-23, 25-16, 25-14. Southwest Minnesota Christian plays at No. 2 Tracy-Milroy-Balaton.

Ellie Krusemark and Lilly Slaughter each had 11 kills to lift Benson past Ortonville in a first-round Section 6A-South playoff match at Benson.

Addyson Himley had 28 set assists for the Braves, who got 26 digs from Libby McGeary. Krusemark also had 22 digs and Slaughter had 18.

Benson, the No. 8 seed, plays at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brooten against top-seeded Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa.

Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg advances in the Section 6A-South bracket after winning a pigtail match over Ashby in Kerkhoven.

The seventh-seeded Fighting Saints topped the 10th-seeded Arrows 25-13, 25-13, 25-10.

Julia Carlson had a KMS-best eight kills while Grace Collins dished out 22 set assists with five digs and five kills. Josie Gjerde finished with seven ace serves while Elsa Gjerde and Taylor Haats both had five apiece.

The Fighting Saints will take on No. 2 seed Wheaton/Herman-Norcross at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Wheaton.
