Waska to make trek to state again

FERGUS FALLS -- The Minnewaska girls golf team will contend for its fourth straight state girls golf title after winning the Section 6AA crown Tuesday.

FERGUS FALLS -- The Minnewaska girls golf team will contend for its fourth straight state girls golf title after winning the Section 6AA crown Tuesday.

The Lakers shot a 298 Tuesday for a two-day total of 603. Staples-Motley was the next closest team with a 656.

Emily Roering shot a 139 to pick up medalist honors for the Lakers, who had five golfers in the top nine. Sarah Roering was second with a 144. Allie Ostrander was fifth with a 158, Brianna Janu took seventh with a 163, and Sam Falk placed ninth with a 168.

Minnewaska won Class A titles in 2006 and 2007, then captured last year's Class AA crown when the Minnesota State High School League expanded the field to three classes.

This year's Class AA meet will be held June 3-4 at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan.

Minnewaska won the state title by 54 strokes last year in Jordan.
