WILLMAR — The New London-Spicer volleyball team won a hard-fought Monday night match with Willmar on Monday night.
The Wildcats beat the Cardinals 25-20, 19-25, 25-20, 25-17.
NLS is ranked fourth in the state in Class 2A QRF power rankings and improves to 23-2 with the victory.
“I think they had a huge block and we didn’t adjust well to that,” Willmar head coach Traci Grussing said. “We didn’t put the ball where it was open. We knew where we should’ve been putting the ball, but we didn’t do it.”
New London-Spicer received eight blocks from Ava Kraemer and five more from Payton Mages.

For Willmar (10-6), Abby Stark set the school’s all-time record for digs. She recorded her 1,095th career dig in the second set and was acknowledged by the public-address announcer. She received a round of applause. Stark broke the record of 1,094 set by Hannah Smith, a 2009 graduate.
Willmar faces Central Lakes Conference opponent Rocori at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Willmar.
NLS returns to Wright County Conference play with a match at 7 p.m. Tuesday at home against Annandale.

Paynesville suffered its fifth straight loss on Monday as Rockford swept the Bulldogs, 25-16, 25-13, 26-24.
Kyleigh Tangen and Harley Kunstleben each finished with five kills for Paynesville. Skylar Burg led the Bulldogs with 11 digs.
