SARTELL OVERVIEW: The unbeaten Sabres average 34 points per game while putting away most opponents early: 36-17 against Little Falls, 42-14 over St. Cloud Tech, 30-0 against Fergus Falls and 34-14 vs. St. Cloud Apollo. The all-senior offense is triggered by quarterback Cole Jenkins, who threw for 1,213 yards as a junior. Joel Kremer (615 yards rushing last fall) is the halfback and Sean Tillman. the fullback. Sartell has above-average speed and huge tackles in 6-0, 285-pound Mike Schramel and 6-7, 290-pound Hayden Kelm, who will line up beside 6-6, 225-pound Tony Schmitz. Sartell started fast last year, too, before a nosedive that included a 24-14 loss to Willmar, a game in which now-graduated Jordan Smith intercepted Jenkins four times and scored every Cardinal point.

WILLMAR OVERVIEW: The Cardinals' passing game is in high gear and the rushing game did average 4.1 yards last week in 18 attempts. Grant Schow, who sat out the second half with an arm contusion at Little Falls, is the featured back, but quarterback Mark Dunham has also picked up key yards. Nathaniel Swoyer, an inside linebacker, was in on 16 tackles last week. Taylor Filipek, a 6-5 senior, caught 12 passes last week, two for touchdowns, and played well at outside linebacker. Derrick Loiselle continues to play well at cornerback and defensive end Patrick Schueller is a stopper along the line of scrimmage, while inside linebacker Coty Milhausen was in on 15 stops last week.
