WILLMAR - Willmar got goals from four different players and goalie Baylie Young stopped 29 shots as the Cardinals defeated Morris/Benson Area 4-2 to win their own invitational Saturday.
Rebecca Freese, KyLee Hulscher, Kenzie Dahl and Ali Sing notched goals for Willmar (2-2). Kelly Mahoney scored both Storm (4-1) goals.
The Cardinals limited scoring opportunties for MBA's high-scoring lines, including 100-goal scorer Dani Schultz, who assisted on Mahoney's second goal to tie the score 2-2 late in the second period.
"Our defense played exceptional," said Cardinals coach Chad Akerson. "Baylie made the first saves and the defense cleaned out so (MBA) had very few second or third chances."
The go-ahead goal and the game winner came just 24 seconds apart in the sixth minute of the third frame, scored by Dahle and Sing.
