Willmar was the top-seeded team in the Section 8AAA wrestling tournament on Saturday, but lost to Bemidji 35-34 in the championship in Sauk Rapids.

The Cardinals, who had beaten No. 2 Bemidji 36-31 in the regular season, defeated Alexandria 56-7 in the quarterfinals and Sauk Rapids 36-28 in the semifinals.

In Section 3A, top-seeded Minneota earned a trip to the state wrestling tournament after beating No. 2 Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 35-25 in the final. Minneota routed Pipestone 49-15 in its semifinal match, while KMS topped BOLD 32-25 in its semifinal match.
