WILLMAR — With New Ulm Gold extending Tuesday’s VFW baseball game into extra innings with a three-run seventh, Mason Madsen hit a walk-off double in the eighth to give Willmar VFW1 a 5-4 victory at Bill Taunton Stadium.

Madsen finished the game 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles.

Sam Etterman went 2-for-3 with a run and two stolen bases. He also struck out eight over four innings in the start for Willmar. Sergio Fernandez picked up the win after tossing two-thirds of an inning.

Willmar’s next game is 6 p.m. Saturday at home against Granite Falls.

Willmar then plays Saturday and Sunday in the Starbuck Junior Legion Post 4582 tournament. The Willmar VFW2 plays Starbuck at 10 a.m. Saturday, then faces Albany at noon Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Willmar VFW1 team plays Morris at 10 a.m. and New London-Spicer at noon Saturday. The final round is Sunday.
