Read how the WarHawks squandered a third-period lead against New Ulm

NEW ULM Down by two with three minutes to go, New Ulm defenseman Teddy Lillico notched two goals late in the third period to bring Friday’s game with Willmar to overtime.

After a scoreless frame, the WarHawks and Steel went to a shootout. While Eli Slagter was able to net one for Willmar, Nick Wieben and Dawson Schwengler lit the lamp for New Ulm to get the victory.

Jacob Halvorson scored his 31st goal of the year to cut the Steel’s deficit to one at 2:00. Willmar responded with 4:44 to play when Marquez Ginger scored his 12th goal on an unassisted goal.

Then came Lillico’s late-game heroics to bring it to overtime. The Red Wing native finished with a game-high three points (2g, 1a).
