SIOUX FALLS, S.D.-Willmar's Winged Foot cross country team placed second at the Nike Cross National Heartland Regional on Sunday, earning a third-straight trip to the 13th annual NXN National meet in December.
Winged Foot runners, who ran for Willmar and placed second at last week's Minnesota State Cross Country Meet, trailed only Edina (79 points) with 85 points.
The Heartland meet features runners from Minnesota, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
The NXN meet is Dec. 3 at the Glendoveer Golf Course in Portland, Oregon.
Last year, Winged Foot won the Heartland Regional and placed ninth at the NXN.

On Sunday, Winged Foot's Jessa Hanson placed 10th overall and fifth in team scoring, finishing in 17:05.5.
Molly Born of Team Swanson won the race in 16:49.3.
WF's Sophie Schmitz, a new University of Minnesota recruit, placed 17th in 18:00.8 and Kayla Rudie was 28th in 18:14.2. For scoring Schmitz was 10th and Rudie was 18th.
Leah Hanson was 35th overall and 24th in scoring in 18:25.4, and Serena Monson was 41st overall and 28th in scoring in 18:30.07. Heidi Schmitz finished in 18:50.10 and Savannah Anez finished in 19:07.6.
At last year's NXN, Jessa Hanson placed 80th, Sophie Schmitz was 88th, Rudie placed 96th, Monson was 100th and Heidi Schmitz was 115th in a field of almost 200 runners from across the country.
