WILLMAR -- The Ridgewater women's team once again suffered through a tough shooting night and it resulted in a 65-49 loss to Minnesota West on Wednesday at Ridgewater.

The Warriors shot just 27 percent from the field in the first half -- compared to the Blue Jays' 48 percent shooting -- and trailed by 14 at halftime.

And Ridgewater's shooting woes only got worse in the second half, with the Warriors hitting just 19 percent from the field, and 23 percent for the game.

Ridgewater fell to 1-2 in the MCAC Southern Division and 4-11 overall. The Blue Jays improved to 1-1 in the division and 12-5 overall.

On Wednesday, Mikell Melius hit 9 of 21 shots and scored 20 points, but the Warriors' other four starters were a combined 5 for 32 (16 percent) and Ridgewaters' short bench didn't fare much better, hitting just 3 of 20 from the field.

Ridgewater once again played without top player Shantel Kelly, who has missed two games with a dislocated shoulder. Kelly said she expects to begin practicing again Friday but likely will have to play the rest of the season with the shoulder taped.
